Director – Economic Sanctions & Export Controls
We are seeking a Director to lead economic sanctions and export controls compliance as part of KPMG’s Legal Risk Management Compliance team.
Responsibilities
- Oversee regulatory horizon scanning and change management for export control; evaluate engagement teams' activities for potential export control exposure; maintain risk registers and raise high‑risk issues to leadership.
- Develop, maintain, and update policies and procedures for export controls and Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) registration; implement internal controls to ensure compliance with ITAR, EAR, and related sanctions regulations; assist engagement teams in creating technology control plans.
- Design and deliver impactful training programs for engagement teams and stakeholders; lead awareness campaigns on export control obligations and sanctions compliance.
- Establish monitoring mechanisms for export control compliance; conduct periodic testing of controls and processes; prepare compliance dashboards and reports for leadership review.
- Lead investigations into potential export control violations; develop and implement corrective action plans; coordinate with internal audit and regulatory bodies on remediation efforts.
- Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to uphold KPMG’s respectful and courteous work environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum ten years of recent experience in sanctions and export controls;
Master’s degree or Juris Doctor preferred;
Bachelor’s degree required. - Certifications such as Certified Export Compliance Professional (CECP) or equivalent preferred.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. export control regulations (ITAR, EAR) and DDTC requirements; extensive experience managing export compliance programs in a complex, multi‑stakeholder environment.
- Strong understanding of federal contracting requirements, risk management principles, and familiarity with controlled unclassified information (CUI) handling.
- Excellent ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and senior leadership.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment‑based visa sponsorship. KPMG will not sponsor applicants for work‑visa status.
