Job Description
College of Southern Nevada (CSN) seeks an instructor to teach undergraduate classes in Land Surveying and Geomatics. Courses will include civil engineering (CEE), construction engineering management (CEM), upper-division computer-aided design (CADD), and land surveying (SURV). The candidate should have knowledge in surveying concepts such as static GNSS surveys, imaging stations, understanding of datum, licensing laws and the land surveying profession, and knowledge of GIS and CADD as applied to land surveying and geomatics.
Outdoor field work is required.
- Teach undergraduate classes in Land Surveying and Geomatics (CEE, CEM, CADD, SURV).
- Demonstrate knowledge of surveying concepts and GIS/CADD applications as applied to land surveying and geomatics.
- Complete outdoor field work as part of teaching responsibilities.
- A bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying and/or Geomatics or equivalent from an accredited college or university and 10 years of comparable professional experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Holder of a currently active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license. Must maintain licensure at own expense.
- Preference given to candidates with relevant work experience who can build industry connections and foster new relationships.
- Knowledge of basic surveying skills including use of automatic levels, total stations, RTK GNSS units, and data collectors.
- Knowledge of static GNSS surveys, imaging stations, datum concepts, licensing laws, and the land surveying profession.
- Ability to use GIS and CADD for land surveying and geomatics applications.
- Ability to hike to survey practice fields and assist with setting or resetting monuments and maintaining equipment.
- Ability to be a productive team player and interact well with peers, students, colleagues, industry, government agencies, and the public.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interest in undergraduate teaching.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral English.
Initial salary placement is based on education and teaching experience. For example, with a Master’s degree, the salary range is $58,046 to $74,304 annually. The full range goes up to $89,166 with Doctorate and 10 years of experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience is considered for initial placement. The selected candidate may choose Tenure Track or Market Factor salary (Market Factor: $66,337).
