The ideal candidate will have completed at least one calendar year of higher education and have the ability to: use computer software to create clear and accurate exhibits for various engineering projects; perform technical research; maintain detailed and organized notes and records; analyze engineering and mathematical problems; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and exhibit a willingness to establish effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
ELIGIBILITY/
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program in any field
* Current enrollment with a minimum of 6 credit hours per semester (undergraduate level) or 3 credit hours per semester (graduate level)
* Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
* Available to work up to 25 hours weekly
* A valid Nevada driver's license
* Legal right to work in the US, including authorization to work off-campus
Under direction, performs engineering work and a variety of technical and administrative duties in the research, planning, design and construction of waterworks capital and/or maintenance projects; interacts and coordinates the work of professional and technical staff; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
Incumbents of this class complete engineering assignments requiring the use of judgment and initiative in developing solutions to problems, interpreting policies and determining work assignments. Incumbents are responsible for planning future system needs and developing, implementing and monitoring major construction and/or developer projects, from inception to completion. Incumbents may oversee, coordinate and review the work of professional and technical personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs engineering planning for major capital construction and/or maintenance programs, including systems construction; determines existing and projected populations and water demands within the District's service area; reviews and evaluates water plans; researches and plans future system and facilities requirements.
Prepares plans and specifications for the construction of waterworks engineering projects, including pumping stations, wells, pipelines and reservoirs; researches and identifies project design requirements; conducts computer modeling of the system and facilities to determine design requirements and parameters; analyzes and determines service availability and hydraulic guidelines for existing and proposed projects; performs calculations and prepares Engineer's estimates of time and material costs.
Reviews developer plans for conformance with District standards and service rules; monitors and reviews progress of developer projects.
Supports facilities expansion and/or refurbishment projects designed in-house and by engineering consultants; prepares requests for soil or topographic surveys; establishes progress schedules and serves as a liaison between the District, contractors, consultants and other utilities or agencies; monitors project progress.
