About the Position
Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates for the Airport Supervising Engineer/Architect position. This role provides project or day‑to‑day staff leadership and/or supervision for engineering or architectural design and/or construction projects and programs. The position also performs professional‑level engineering or architectural planning, design, and/or construction oversight for a variety of construction, remodeling, and major repairs of airport and Clark County buildings, local agency buildings, and other public facilities.
The recruitment will be used to hire for several roles, including Civil Engineer and Mechanical Engineer.
The Civil Engineer is a project‑management position and subject‑matter expert within the airport’s design and construction group. The role may supervise technical design staff, serve as an owner’s representative for airport roadways and airfield projects, oversee civil engineering consultants, manage design scope, schedule and budget, and prepare construction documents for smaller projects. The position liaises between the airport’s construction management team and design consultants to ensure efficient construction administration.
MechanicalEngineer
The Mechanical Engineer functions similarly, serving as project manager and subject‑matter expert. Responsibilities include supervising technical staff, acting as the owner’s representative for mechanical/plumbing projects within terminal and airport facilities, overseeing consultant design, managing scope, schedule, and budget, and preparing construction documents for smaller projects. The position also serves as liaison between construction management and design consultants.
Responsibilities- Consult with airport, county, consultants, contractors, and agency staff regarding project requirements, cost estimates, and related matters.
- Conduct feasibility and cost studies; develop engineering or architectural solutions to complex problems, including terminal buildings, airport facilities, airfield areas, roadway and utilities infrastructure systems, and office or plant facilities.
- Prepare project designs, cost estimates, specifications, and project schedules.
- Participate in writing requests for proposal and contract specifications for design and construction services; participate in contractor selection and administer professional service contracts.
- Act as liaison with various stakeholder staff to ensure codes and standards are met in assigned projects.
- Administer contracts and consult with contractors, engineers, architects, and/or construction contractors; schedule projects, provide technical oversight, inspect work, and ensure compliance with contract specifications, applicable codes, and airport design requirements.
- Coordinate and provide technical oversight to staff performing construction and remodeling projects; provide project or ongoing leadership or supervision, including work assignment, review, and evaluation.
- Review and authorize payment requests and change orders; track and document project and program costs.
- Consult with maintenance staff and recommend solutions to facility design, maintenance, and operational problems.
- Contribute to the unit’s efficiency and effectiveness by offering suggestions and acting as an active team member.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare a variety of periodic and special reports.
- Drive a personal or department vehicle to project sites and meetings.
- Monitor developments in engineering and architectural design and construction; gather information, develop alternatives, and make recommendations.
