About The Position
The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates for the Airport Supervising Engineer/Architect position. This role provides project or day-to-day staff leadership and/or supervision for engineering or architectural design and/or construction projects and programs. It performs professional level engineering or architectural planning, design, and/or construction oversight for construction, remodeling, and major repairs of the airport and Clark County buildings and other public facilities.
This recruitment will be used to hire for various positions including, but not limited to, a Civil Engineer position and a Mechanical Engineer position.
- Serve as Owner’s Representative for the airport, overseeing civil engineering and/or mechanical/plumbing consultants for airport projects; ensure end users’ needs are reflected in technical design documents and specifications.
- Manage design scope, schedule, and budget; may perform limited preparation of engineering construction documents for smaller projects, including stamping, permitting, and AHJ approvals.
- Act as liaison between the airport’s construction management team and design consultants to enable smoother construction administration and successful project outcomes.
- Provide leadership or supervision to staff on construction and remodeling projects; assign work, review performance, and participate in hiring or disciplinary processes as assigned.
- Review and authorize payment requests and change orders; monitor and document project costs.
- Collaborate with maintenance staff to address facility design, maintenance, and operational issues; contribute to the unit’s service effectiveness and team-based work.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare periodic and special reports; drive to project sites as needed.
- Monitor industry developments in engineering/architectural design and construction; develop alternatives and make recommendations.
Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Architecture and four (4) years of full-time professional level engineering or architectural design, plan checking, and/or project management experience. Education equivalency may be considered for registered architects. All qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the Education and Work Experience sections of the application. Working Conditions: Work with exposure to potential hazards at construction sites.
Licensing and Certification: Must possess valid registration as a professional Engineer or Architect in Nevada. If registered in another state, must obtain Nevada registration within one year of hire. Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of hire.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain residency within Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle laws within 90 days of employment.
Citizenship: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Clark County does not sponsor H1B visas or transfers for any position.
Background Check: Employment is contingent upon an education/experience background investigation, FBI fingerprint history check, and ability to obtain TSA security badge. Two original government-issued IDs are required upon acceptance of a job offer.
Security/Seal Program: Employment is contingent upon a ten-year employment and five-year residency history check and identity documentation for Security Seal requirements.
