Job Description
- Qualified candidates will have at least 10 years of hands-on substation design experience, preferably in a utility environment (but would consider consultant environment as well).
- Highly preferred that candidates have a PE license. Please include license number and state in which it was obtained with your submittal.
- Provides comprehensive engineering design services for substation facilities, ensuring facilities are constructed on schedule and within committed resource allocations.
- Leads functional teams and provides technical oversight in performing all phases of projects.
- Assists with internal training for engineers and technicians.
- Works closely with managers and principal engineers on higher-level projects, recommending and implementing changes that benefit the company.
- Develops economical, technically feasible, reliable substation physical and control designs with no supervision and guidance. Provides technical management of multiple substation projects and prioritization of work, working collaboratively with outside consulting firms and internal stakeholders. (25%)
- Ensures quality control on assigned projects by providing construction support as needed, including coordination with construction forces and job site inspections. (25%)
- Provides coordination and communication with other departments in completing procurement tasks on projects with no supervision or guidance. (15%)
- Assists and guides other departments in the solution of non-standard substation design problems. (15%)
- Provides accurate cost estimates for use in company budgeting procedures such that cash flow requirements are identified. (10%)
- Provides input for development of detailed project schedules and updates project management system to reflect the status of projects assigned. (10%)
- Ensures all compliance aspects of the position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school in electrical engineering and 8 years of industry experience as a practicing engineer and must be a licensed PE. If no PE license, must have 10 years as a practicing engineer.
- Demonstrated knowledge of:
- Substation/control engineering principles and knowledge of other phases of engineering.
- Areas of cost control, budgets, finance, and accounting with technical experiences in cost analysis.
- Skills such as:
- Analytical, interpersonal, and communication with company personnel, customers, and regulatory agencies.
- Multi-tasking, leadership, research, analysis, project management, problem-solving, and decision-making.
