Responsibilities
  • Teach four Honors courses per semester (typically three public speaking courses and a senior-level “special topics” seminar of their own design). Course assignments may also include a 200-level interpersonal communication course, depending on the candidate’s preference and the needs of the college.
  • Collaborate with Honors College faculty, mentor undergraduate students, supervise senior Honors research thesis projects, and participate in appropriate levels of service to the college, university, and community. Because the Honors College emphasizes a strong sense of community, faculty are expected to have a substantial in-person presence on campus.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A Ph.D. in Communication Studies or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university. The degree must be awarded prior to the start of employment.
  • Ability to teach Honors Public Speaking and 400-level Honors special topics seminars.
  • A significant and proven record of transformative teaching appropriate to their rank, and a record of service at the student, college, university, or community level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A strong commitment to student success, mentoring, and undergraduate intellectual development.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver well-structured, rigorous, and innovative courses.
  • Evidence of effective, innovative, and creative instructional methods that promote active learning and critical thinking.
  • Preference given to candidates with a social science background who can teach Honors courses in interpersonal, health, and/or organizational communication.
  • Experience teaching in an Honors environment, service-learning, or online/hybrid formats is a plus.
