Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for the Director of the LL.M. Program in Gaming Law and Regulation and Assistant Professor-in-Residence, William S. Boyd School of Law [R0150541]
ROLE of the POSITION The Director of the LL.M. Program in Gaming Law and Regulation and Assistant Professor-in-Residence (Director) is a core member of the law school faculty, with a unique leadership and administrative role in the LL.M. program. The position requires a deep knowledge and of, and experience in, gaming law. The Director will teach specialized courses in gaming law (2 per year), advise and mentor students on their career pathways into gaming law, as well as manage the day-to-day operations and strategic direction (including overall curriculum) of the program.

The role demands a combination of teaching, mentoring, research, and administrative responsibilities to ensure the program’s academic excellence and market relevance.

Key Responsibilities And Duties Faculty-Level Work (60%)
  • Teaching and Curriculum Development (30%):

  • Responsibility for the overall curriculum of the LL.M. Program, along with learning objectives and curriculum mapping.

  • Teach core and elective courses within the LL.M. Program, covering topics such as gaming regulation, casino operations, sports betting, and technology innovation.

  • Collaborate with other faculty and industry experts to develop and refine the curriculum, ensuring it remains current and responsive to changes in the gaming landscape.

  • Recruit industry professionals to serve as adjunct faculty in the program.

  • Student Advising and Mentorship (30%):

  • Serve as the primary academic advisor and mentor for LL.M. students, guiding them through course selection, academic progress, and career planning.

  • Provide career guidance and network students with practitioners in the gaming industry.

  • Find externship placements for students, coordinate with field supervisors, assist students in getting placed in externships and oversee externship coursework as a complement to the field placements.

Administrative-Level Work (40%)
  • Program Management and Strategy (20%):

  • Oversee the daily operations of the LL.M. program, including working with the Admissions team on student recruitment and admissions, and working with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and the Registrars’ Office on course scheduling.

  • Manage the program’s budget and resources in coordination with the Dean’s office.

  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the program’s growth and academic distinction.

  • Serve as the law school liaison to the International Center for Gaming Regulation and the International Gaming Institute

  • Industry and Community Engagement (10%):

  • Act as a liaison between the law school and the gaming industry, fostering relationships with regulators, companies, and industry associations.

  • Organize events, speaker series, and conferences to connect students with practitioners (such as field trips to local resorts and casinos).

  • Program Development and Outreach (10%):

  • Proactively manage and maintain responsibility for the program’s website and marketing materials, in collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team, to promote the program.

  • Work closely with the Admissions team to maintain a strong applicant pool.

Required

Minimum Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent first law degree.
  • Significant professional experience (3-5) as a practitioner, regulator, or in-house counsel or other role within the gaming industry, serving gaming clients, or other gaming-related experience.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Established connections within the gaming industry and/or regulatory bodies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing academic programs or leading complex projects.
  • Prior teaching experience at the university or graduate level.
  • Experience with curriculum design and online learning platforms.
  • Demonstrated interest in mentoring students.
