Instructor, Psychology - Tenure Track - Fall 2026 Position Description
Provide high-quality instruction in 100- and 200-level Psychology courses. Teaching assignments will use a combination of in-person, hybrid, and asynchronous‑online modalities. In-person assignments may be located at any of the three main campuses. These may include morning, afternoon, or evening classes.
Primary job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:- Teach 30 credit hours per year (15 credit hours in each of the Fall and Spring semesters). Ability to effectively teach multiple sections of PSY 101 – General Psychology each semester is essential, as well as the ability to teach additional Psychology courses offered by the Department.
- Develop syllabi and course materials reflecting current pedagogy. Select appropriate texts as needed.
- Assess student mastery of course objectives, skills, and competencies as required by established course outcomes and/or program and department rubrics.
- Maintain a minimum of 5 hours of office hours per week and provide timely responses to student queries.
- Provide student advising; participate in recruitment activities and collaboratively engage in program/curriculum development.
- Participate in Program, Department, and School meetings and activities; and serve on Department and College committees.
- Master’s degree or higher in Psychology or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Post‑secondary teaching experience within the last 4 years as the primary instructor. This must include on‑ground teaching of psychology course(s) equivalent to those offered by CSN.
- Ability to teach a variety of undergraduate‑level courses in the field of Psychology.
- Proficiency using course learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Blackboard, etc.
- A history of college service activities.
- A commitment to teaching community college students.
- Ph.D. in Psychology or Psy.
D. - Formal training in post‑secondary teaching.
- Experience teaching psychology courses as the instructor of record at a community college within the past 4 years.
- Experience developing psychology classes at the community college level.
- Experience teaching a variety of psychology courses.
- Five or more years’ experience teaching undergraduate psychology courses as the instructor of record – excluding graduate teaching assistantships.
- College service within the past 4 years.
- Psychology‑related professional or community service within the past 4 years.
- Psychology‑related scholarly activities and professional development (academic research – other than graduate thesis or dissertation research – within the past 4 years).
Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full‑time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master’s degree the salary range would be $58,046 to $74,304 annually. The entire salary range is up to $89,166 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years’ experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement purposes.
