Position Summary
The Department of Biological Sciences provides quality instruction for courses required by limited‑entry programs in Health Sciences, the Associate of Science Degree in Biology, and the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Environmental Conservation. The Department currently has a strong focus on increasing the throughput of students to limited‑entry Health Sciences and on growing the BAS in Environmental Conservation.
Responsibilities- Teaching transferable, entry‑level lectures and laboratories for BIOL 191 Introduction to Organismal Biology and one or more of the following: NRES 310 Wildlife Ecology & Management, BIOL 432 Herpetology, BIOL 433 Ornithology, and BIOL 434 Mammalogy.
- Applying a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of the student population and the standards of the discipline.
- Developing clear syllabi and effective course materials.
- Evaluating student mastery of skills and competencies required by course learning outcomes.
- Participating in course and program assessment and curricular development.
- Participating in discipline, department, and school meetings and activities.
- Serving on department, school, and college‑wide committees that focus on unit planning and institutional decision‑making.
- Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with students, faculty, and staff of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Teaching on multiple campuses during the day or evening hours.
- Master of Science degree in biological science from an accredited college or university.
- One year of experience teaching organismal biology at the college level.
- Ph.D. in biological science from an accredited college or university.
- At least one year of experience teaching organismal biology at a community college.
- At least one year of experience teaching wildlife ecology & management, herpetology, ornithology, or mammalogy at the college level.
- Demonstrated experience with the use of technology in the classroom.
- Demonstrated experience with assessment of course and program student learning outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience working with a diverse/multicultural student body and/or workforce.
Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full‑time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master’s degree the salary range would be $58,046 to $74,304 annually. The entire salary range is up to $89,166 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years’ experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement purposes.
