** Academic Advisor position in the Division of Health Sciences Advising Center** **[R0150467].
** This position requires a
** Bachelor’s Degree
** from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and
** one year of experience in a field related to academic advising**. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
* Advisors must have knowledge of university and major-specific degree requirements, advising systems and policies. Policies, procedures, and requirements do change, and it is important for Academic Advisors to stay up-to-date on these changes. Creative problem solving and evaluation of alternatives with students may be necessary. Advisors must be knowledgeable of issues on campus affecting students as well as academic requirements, policies and procedures.
* To achieve excellence in their work, advisors must have understanding of all three components of the NACADA Academic Advising Core Competencies (Conceptual, Informational, and Relational components) and the ability to synthesize and apply them as needed in advising interactions is required.
* Advisors must possess active listening and communication skills:
Advisors must clearly articulate messages to faculty, staff, students and parents/families. Presentation skills and effective time management skills. Organization and computer skills.
* Advisors must be able to comprehend, explain, and apply complex information from various undergraduate catalogs. They also must be able to simplify complex information and clearly articulate that information to others, and be able to to change quickly and often. Advisors must be discreet, patient, tactful, and highly ethical.
* Advising professionals must have the ability to proactively plan and balance working with students while completing other projects and complying with university student success initiatives.
* Advising professionals must be highly organized, detail oriented and be able to handle demanding workload and multi-task.
