Overview
The University Of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Retention, Progression & Completion, College of Urban Affairs [R0150373]. The role is a leadership position in the advising center, helping with the development and execution of programs directed toward advising, retaining and graduating students, while assisting the Associate Director and Director in overseeing the general management of the advising center.
The position may oversee advising projects/initiatives as determined by campus leadership and will advise a caseload of undergraduate students within the college. It requires knowledge of all related University, College and Departmental policies, procedures and curriculum. The position will coordinate RPC initiatives, including creating a year-long strategic plan with specific RPC projects, tracking students’ academic progress, and designing experiences for at-risk and special populations.
It involves identifying barriers to student success and developing/implementing differentiated care solutions and targeted support programming/initiatives. The role may oversee programs designed to increase student retention, such as the Urban Ambassador - Peer Mentoring program. The Assistant Director will have supervisory responsibilities and may assume the responsibilities of the Associate Director and/or Director in their absence.
- Advise a caseload of undergraduate students within the college and maintain knowledge of all related policies, procedures and curriculum.
- Coordinate RPC initiatives including year-long strategic planning, tracking of academic progress, and designing programs and support initiatives for at-risk and special populations.
- Identify barriers to student success and develop/implement differentiated care solutions and targeted support programming/initiatives.
- Oversee programs designed to increase student retention (e.g., Urban Ambassador - Peer Mentoring).
- Provide supervisory coverage for the Associate Director and Director in their absence.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or CHEA.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in advising. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
- 3-5 years of experience in advising or an advising-related field.
- 1-3 years of management and/or supervisory experience.
- Knowledge and experience with Retention, Progression, Completion initiatives and data systems (e.g., UNLV Analytics, MyUNLV) to research and extract data for projects.
- Knowledge of university technologies specific to advising.
- Proven track record of designing and implementing student success initiatives.
