Position SummaryThe Alexander Dawson School seeks a full‑time, hourly assistant teacher for the Lower School Learning Support Team. The role provides classroom management and small‑group instruction, working alongside lead teachers to meet differentiated student needs.
Professional Standards & Conduct- Consistently uphold professional standards of personal presentation, punctuality, attendance, meeting participation, safety protocols, and decision‑making.
- Maintain required credentials and attend required professional learning.
- Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of Dawson’s mission, vision, core values, and diversity statement.
- Actively participate in school‑wide events.
- Honor confidentiality of school, student, and family information.
- Demonstrate ethical decision‑making in all professional contexts.
- Uphold Dawson working agreements such as positive intentions, accountability, mindful sharing, and proactive solution seeking.
- Collaborate with lead teachers on the assigned grade‑level team.
- Serve in a substitute teacher role as needed.
- Assist with classroom prep and clerical support (copying, bulletin boards, material preparation).
- Assist lead teachers in classroom management and encouraging acceptable behavior.
- Assist lead teachers with taking attendance, correcting papers, and organizing instructional materials.
- Supervise students during recess, lunch time, and/or carpool.
- Provide 1:1 student support and/or tutoring.
- Demonstrate deep self‑awareness, consistently seek feedback, and implement meaningful practice changes.
- Create personal development plans and actively seek learning opportunities.
- Exhibit excellent listening skills, remain alert to diverse perspectives, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Establish reliable, clear communication systems with families and share progress regularly.
- Actively participate in team meetings and collaborative efforts, contributing positively to grade‑level or department teams.
- Consistently consult with mentors, supervisors, and colleagues for guidance on interventions and classroom challenges.
- Commit to ongoing cultural competency and understand how identity and lived experiences influence relationships.
- Minimum three years of teaching experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required.
- Experience working with elementary‑aged students.
- Strong awareness of current brain research related to technology use.
- Stand and walk regularly; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
