Position Summary

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN), Department of Human Behavior, is currently seeking a full-time tenure-track Sociology Instructor. Teaching assignments may be multi-campus with the possibility of day, evening, weekends, in-person, online, and/or hybrid classes in accordance with department needs. Under the direction of the Department Chair, the Sociology Instructor will be responsible for the following:

  • Provide instruction for introductory and upper-level Sociology courses.
  • Provide instruction for a variety of Sociology courses in live, online or hybrid modes.
  • Support the Sociology curriculum in support of the Sociology Associate of Arts Degree.
  • Develop syllabi, assignments, assessments, and other course materials.
  • Assess and evaluate student mastery of skills and competencies required by institution-, course-, and program-level outcomes.
  • Participate in program/division meetings and activities and serve on department and college-wide committees.
  • Collaborate with Sociology faculty on projects and initiatives, including course/curriculum development, outcomes measurement, and sociology student success and retention.
  • Participate in student assistance and advising.
  • Participate in college and community service activities.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Multi-campus teaching may be required to meet departmental needs. Day, evening, and weekend classes may be necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction for Sociology courses in multiple modalities (live, online, hybrid).
  • Develop and assess course materials aligned with outcomes.
  • Engage in service to the department, college, and community; participate in meetings and committees.
  • Support the department’s strategic goals and student success initiatives.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in Sociology from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of Sociology courses in live and online or hybrid modalities.
  • Two or more years of experience teaching at the community college level.
  • Experience with Canvas or a similar Learning Management system.
