Position: Assistant Professor Radiochemistry, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry [R0150293]

Overview

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Radiochemistry, Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry [R0150293]. The position includes teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in radiochemistry, developing an externally funded research program in radiochemistry, contributing to the department and university service, mentoring students, and participating in the radiochemistry program's development and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in Chemistry, Inorganic Materials, Nuclear Science, and Radiochemistry.
  • Develop a vigorous externally funded research program in radiochemistry (e.g., radio analytical, separations, forensics, radiopharmaceuticals, synthesis, or closely related areas emphasizing science involving radio elements).
  • Engage in service to the University and community.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research through laboratory engagement and direct supervision.
  • Primarily teach undergraduate and graduate courses in radiochemistry and its uses; contribute to existing courses in the chemistry department; support development and delivery of the UNLV undergraduate radiochemistry curriculum.
  • Exploit and utilize existing radiochemistry laboratory equipment and facilities in alignment with the program’s collaborative research culture; develop a rigorous, externally funded research program; participate in maintenance, expansion, and shared use of radiochemistry infrastructure; provide scientific and programmatic leadership; build collaborations and external partnerships for future growth.

Profile of the Department/College

The UNLV Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry has 27 full-time tenured/tenure-track faculty engaged in extramurally supported research across physical, materials & computational chemistry, biochemistry, analytical, inorganic & organic chemistry, radiochemistry, and chemical education. The radiochemistry program focuses on radio element speciation with applications in the nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear forensics, and medical applications, with ongoing program expansion. Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Radiochemistry or a closely related discipline (Nuclear Engineering, Inorganic Chemistry, Forensic, or Health Physics) from an accredited institution recognized by the US Department of Education or CHEA. The successful candidate must possess a proven record of research accomplishments.

Preferred Qualifications

Post-doctoral research training or equivalent research/industrial experience is preferred.
