Overview

The University Of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for Psychiatry and Behavioral Health, Assistant/Associate Professor, Psychiatry, Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine. This position includes patient care in outpatient clinics and consultation-liaison work at our affiliate hospital, with involvement in leadership and education for medical students and residents.

Role of the Position

The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine is expanding its Psychiatry faculty. Responsibilities include clinical practice in consultation-liaison services at the affiliate hospital and outpatient services at Mojave Counseling, a multidisciplinary community mental health clinic. Educational opportunities include working with residents and fellows in clinical and didactic settings, medical school curriculum development, and precepting third- and fourth-year medical students.

and Context

The Department trains approximately 45 Psychiatry residents and fellows in general psychiatry, child & adolescent, and forensic psychiatry fellowships. The program’s consultation-liaison service is affiliated with University Medical Center (UMC), and outpatient care is with Mojave Counseling, offering a mix of inpatient and ambulatory teaching experiences. The department’s goal is to ensure residents and fellows develop knowledge, procedural skills, critical thinking, and professionalism to succeed as psychiatrists.

Minimum Qualifications
  • This position requires an MD or DO from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
  • Maintain a clinical practice within a multidisciplinary team in a community mental health outpatient setting.
  • Demonstrate leadership and conflict resolution skills among people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency by the time of hire.
  • Must be ABPN certified in general psychiatry within 2 years of hire date.
  • The preferred candidate will have experience working in acute care hospitals or community mental health

Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date. Candidates must be eligible for an unrestricted Nevada medical license, Nevada pharmacy and DEA licenses, and malpractice insurance. They must meet credentialing requirements and be able to obtain privileges at affiliated hospitals and other site locations as needed.

Additional Considerations

The candidate’s educational credentials, terminal degree, experience in an academic medical institution or equivalency, research and scholarly activity will be considered in determining rank. The SOM Faculty Appointment, Promotion, and Tenure (FAPT) Committee will use Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV (SOM) promotion criteria to recommend rank to the Dean of the SOM. Tenure consideration may be given on a case-by-case basis depending on verified credentials, the FAPT recommendation, and SOM Dean's recommendation.
