Position: PAYROLL TECHNICIAN

About The Position

The Clark County Finance Department is seeking a qualified candidate to join our team as a Payroll Technician, located within the Comptroller's Office. The Comptroller's Office is the central coordinating financial agency of Clark County, responsible for both external and internal financial reporting as well as the processing and maintenance of all official accounting records. This position is responsible for performing complex, technical, and/or specialized financial office work relating to payroll report processing, employee hours, retirement benefits, and/or other compensation reporting in accordance with County policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.

The ideal candidate will work as part of a team and demonstrate the use of independent judgment and initiative. This recruitment may be used to fill multiple positions in the department.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience:

Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years of full‑time general clerical experience, two (2) years of which include accounting or financial experience. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.

Working Conditions

Specified positions may require working evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts.

Background Investigation:
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. Periodically after employment background investigations may be conducted.

Pre‑Employment Drug Testing:
Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre‑employment drug examination.

Examples of Duties
  • Enter and retrieve data from a computer system and produce reports; operates standard office equipment.
  • Use a computer to develop and manage databases and/or spreadsheet files and to develop special report formats.
  • Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
  • Perform a variety of general office support work such as organizing and maintaining various files, typing correspondence, reports, forms, and specialized documents, and proofreading and checking materials for accuracy, completeness and compliance with departmental policies and regulations.
  • Work with strict, recurring deadlines.
  • Reference multiple applicable laws and contracts.
Timekeeping
  • Perform payroll processing utilizing KRONOS or other automated time entry systems.
  • Ensure employee hours are compensated in accordance with County policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Research and respond to inquiries regarding employee time and pay.
  • Analyze payroll/timekeeping data to generate employment reports.
  • Work with Worker's Compensation and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) as it relates to employee payroll and leave time.
