Tri Star Properties is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to support accounting and financial operations across our real estate and construction entities
. This full-time accounting position offers broad responsibility, including general ledger accounting, financial reporting, construction accounting, and financial analysis, with direct interaction with leadership and external partners.
The role provides the opportunity to work closely with and receive mentorship from the Chief Operating Officer (former CPA) in a growing real estate organization and gain exposure to the full accounting lifecycle of the business.
Construction or real estate accounting experience is preferred, but not required for candidates with strong accounting fundamentals, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting
- Maintain the general ledger for multiple real estate and construction legal entities.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, monthly trial balances, and financial statements.
- Prepare job cost reports and annual work papers, including tax support schedules.
- Process accounts payable and accounts receivable for multiple real estate entities and the construction company.
Construction Accounting
- Prepare and manage monthly construction draws by consolidating, verifying, and summarizing contractor invoices.
- Prepare and maintain credit applications for the construction company.
- Collect, review, and record lien waivers.
- Maintain W-9 and certificate of insurance files for vendors and subcontractors.
Reporting & Cash Management
- Prepare and update reports related to cash, tenant leases, budgeting, and project funding.
- Assist with cash flow tracking across entities and projects.
- Prepare annual and multi-year budgets for the company and individual entities.
- Forecast short- and long-term cash needs across real estate and construction entities.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis to support management and operational decision-making.
External Coordination & Oversight
- Interact with brokers, insurance agents, capital partners, auditors, property management companies, subcontractors, vendors, and other professionals.
- Assist with audit requests and preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Oversee and coordinate with third-party property management companies.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Assist in the selection and implementation of construction software.
- Learn and become a key user of the company’s investor reporting portal.
- Work closely with the COO (former CPA) on accounting processes, financial reporting, and special projects.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA designation preferred, or progress toward certification.
- Proven experience in general ledger and accrual accounting, including financial statement preparation.
- Construction, real estate, or project-based accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with construction draws, job costing, or project accounting is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with Sage, Quick Books or similar accounting software; strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to support budgeting, forecasting, and ad hoc financial analysis.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with leadership and external partners.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a hands-on, fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
