Mechanic Welder - Surge Worker – Sierra Lobo, Inc.

NASA’s White Sands Test Facility, Technical Services Department (White Sands, NM).

ResponsibilitiesMechanic Welder, Jr.
- Apply technical knowledge to solve problems not addressed solely by manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents.
- Use a basic knowledge of various equipment (bender, shear, metal worker, grinders, hand tools, etc.) for fabrication.
- Understand various alloys and prepare materials for welding.
- Demonstrate technical knowledge and skills in all areas of welding and fabrication, including GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, oxygen‑acetylene and plasma cutting, fitting, and layout.
- Perform basic layout work and tack welding.
- Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work area.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Apply technical knowledge to solve problems not addressed solely by manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents.
- Possess advanced knowledge of various equipment (bender, shear, metal worker, grinders, hand tools, etc.) for fabrication.
- Understand advanced alloys and prepare materials for welding.
- Demonstrate technical knowledge and skills in all areas of welding and fabrication, including GTAW, SMAW, GMAW, oxygen‑acetylene and plasma cutting, fitting, and layout.
- Prepare materials, select proper procedures, set up and operate all types of welding equipment required in the fabrication, modification, installation, and repair of buildings, equipment, site installations, components, and vehicles.
- Collaborate well with others and provide quality and timely welding support services in a team environment.
- Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work area.
- Perform related duties as required.
Education Requirement:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of applicable welding experience or training.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license (state).
- Must pass a physical examination as determined by the WSTF physical examination requirements for the job classification.
- Must be able to meet the requirements for certification, if applicable, as specified in the White Sands Training Database (WTDB).
