Recovery Coach (Peer Support Specialist)

Schedule:

This is a .4 FTE role that will work two 8‑hour shifts per week.

How

You’ll Contribute
  • Engage with clients in pre‑recovery, during active inpatient or outpatient treatment, and throughout the continuum of care to enhance stability, durability, and quality of the recovery process.
  • Conduct meaningful face‑to‑face conversations and telephone interactions with clients, families, and other community supports.
  • Serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, case manager, and motivator to recovering individuals and their families to promote long‑term wellness.
  • Assist with de‑escalation when needed, employing appropriate crisis intervention and de‑escalation techniques, as required and according to policy and procedure.
  • Complete 15‑minute checks, monitor for contraband, evaluate for change in condition, and provide line‑of‑sight or one‑on‑one care as directed.
  • Interface with patients, families, community resources, and treatment team members to link to care; complete discharge planning documentation and identify barriers to continued involvement.
  • Accompany patients to off‑unit activities such as meals, outside breaks, and off‑unit visits.
  • Report medical or psychiatric changes to the treatment team and provide pertinent feedback to the interdisciplinary team regarding patient response to treatment interventions.
  • Maintain documentation on all patients enrolled in the program and chart all communication in the patient chart, per policy.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Encourage or assist patients in engaging with treatment programming.
  • Facilitate or co‑facilitate psycho educational and peer support groups effectively, using established guidelines and/or approved information.
  • Maintain current knowledge of program and protocol guidelines.
  • Aid in orienting and pre‑cepting new staff members; train staff on the peer support specialist model as it applies to the Recovery Coach role.
  • Comply with hospital policy, OSHA, and CDC guidelines regarding specimen collection.
  • Employ principles of communication, interviewing techniques, problem‑solving, and crisis intervention in psychotherapeutic interventions based on the plan of care.

What We’re Looking For
  • Education:

    High school diploma.
  • Experience:

    Minimum of 2 years in recovery from a substance use and/or mental health disorder.
  • License:
    Valid driver’s license.
  • Additional Requirements:

    CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment, prior to any patient contact. Peer Support Specialist Certification must be completed and obtained within one year from date of hire as Recovery Coach.
