Sr. Engineer, Reliability & Safety

Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated Senior Engineer/Analyst to join our team. • Works with project engineering to develop Reliability and Safety artifacts for new and existing designs.
• Performs analysis and/or assessments in either or both major safety areas below:
  • System Safety Analysis (SSA):
    • Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
    • Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA)
    • Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)
    • Risk identification, prioritization, and management
  • Reliability Analyses:
    • Design for Reliability and Safety
    • Reliability Predictions
    • Reliability Allocation
    • Environmental Reliability Rating and Conversion
• Provides support and risk advice to production, maintenance, technical, project or program personnel based on joint Reliability and Safety metrics.
• Acts as Technical lead of Reliability for Safety, supporting program planning and technical execution of Reliability analyses and deliverables.
• Reports to Engineering Manager, Product Safety on progress and status of Reliability deliverables.

• Requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Mathematics or Physics from an accredited university; or 6 years’ experience with a master’s degree.
• Experience with Systems Engineering development life cycles.
• Must have experience with fault tree modeling software.
• Experience with software development practices and design assurance methods such as DO-178 or ARP
  4754 preferred.
• Experience with electronic hardware design assurance methods such as DO-254 preferred.
• Experience with Built-In-Test and its application to Reliability, Maintainability & Safety (RM&S) preferred.
• Experience utilizing reliability and safety analyses in complementary fashion.
• Detailed knowledge of the inputs and outputs of the various RM&S analysis techniques.
• Experience with the system safety methods of ARP
  4761 or MIL-STD-882, with emphasis on hazard mitigation processes.
• Experience modeling system and vehicle level reliability by assessing board-level failure modes.
• Ability to read electrical and mechanical engineering drawings, to include schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly drawings.

• 8 or more years of relevant experience in aerospace or similar field.
• Leadership skills with experience creating, defining, and executing technical analysis plans.
• Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and written communication skills.
• Team player with excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
• Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision, adaptable to changing environments, and able to handle multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously.
• Strong statistical analysis skills preferred.

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $–$. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity.
