Position Summary

This is a professional position providing peer recovery support in the Together We Rise program under the Families First Division. The Families First Division was created under the Family First Prevention Services Act (FFPSA) to support keeping children with their families and reducing the need for out-of-home care. The division focuses on improving access to mental health services, substance use treatment, and parenting skills, and works to decrease the number of children entering the Child Welfare System by using a solution-focused, family-centered approach and evidence-based practices.

Staff in Together We Rise work with parents/caregivers and children who are safe but at high risk of future abuse or neglect, using a team-based, respectful approach to promote safe and stable parenting practices and long-term behavior change.

The Together We Rise (TWR) Peer Mentor role provides integral support, coaching, and guidance for families at risk of involvement with the child welfare system in Pinellas County. The TWR Peer Mentor guides families with substance use, mental health, or co-occurring concerns, acting as a system navigator to support treatment/recovery. The TWR Peer Mentor ensures recovery-focused, individualized services that help individuals manage their recovery and advocacy.

The role emphasizes safety, self-worth, confidence, community connection, boundary setting, planning, self-advocacy, personal growth, and development of social supports and effective communication. The focus is on developing rehabilitative skills to advance recovery and collaborating with other clinical service providers (e.g., Behavioral Health Case Manager, therapist, psychiatrist). If clients are not engaged in clinical services, the Peer Mentor will coordinate education and initiation where appropriate and document any engagement status in service notes.
