Overview

Performs electrical maintenance and service work. Installs or repairs lamps and fixtures, power outlets, and switches. Maintains and repairs air conditioning unit. This description provides a representative summary of major duties and responsibilities. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those presented in this description.

• Installs conduits, wires, pull boxes, switchboards, controllers, and switches required in making additions, extensions, or alterations in electrical systems.
• Tests, locates, and repairs trouble in electrical circuits and equipment; repairs and replaces defective parts in motors, generators, storage batteries, switchboards, controllers, contractors, switches, and other fixtures and appliances.
• Maintains a stock of selected electrical supplies; prepares reports and maintains records.
• Services, repairs, and maintains lighting, power, heating, and traffic lights, as assigned.
• Provides advice and guidance to individuals responsible for appliance, bulb, ballast, and light fixture repair.
• Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use.
• Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of

• Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software

• Knowledge of installation of emergency back-up generators
• Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials of the electrical trade

Physical Effort Requirements

Position will have the following exposures

• Frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk.
• Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
