Maintain the buildings, grounds, and equipment to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the County fairgrounds. Participate in planning of programs, policies, or objectives for own work group and department. Responsibilities may include event set‑up, facility preparation, janitorial duties, and groundskeeping activities. The Fairgrounds Maintenance team works Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and may work evenings, holidays, and outside in sometimes unfavorable weather conditions.

  • Responsible for having the buildings and grounds ready for events at the fairgrounds.
  • Cleans the buildings, which includes sweeping and scrubbing the floors, wiping the tables and chairs, cleaning restrooms and kitchens.
  • Cleans outdoor restrooms and makes necessary repairs, including electrical and plumbing.
  • Operates tractor, forklift, and other equipment as needed.
  • Operates basic lawn equipment. Mow grass, use a weed eater tool, and spray weeds.
  • Repairs equipment as necessary.
  • Pick up trash from the parking lot and grounds.
  • Responsible for opening and closing the buildings during a two‑week on‑call period, which includes two weekend duties. During this time, you will be responsible for assisting the customers and vendors.
  • Paints and repairs woodwork and plaster.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools, or repairs or fabricates parts.
  • Maintains arena and barn area as required, which includes watering and dragging for events.
  • Assist with cleaning stalls and pens.
  • Held responsible for the equipment used, uniforms issued, and the county phone.
  • Operates hand and power tools.
  • Performs grounds maintenance duties; maintains landscaping; irrigates lawns.
  • Performs building maintenance duties; cleans restrooms and other facilities; sweeps and mops floors.
  • Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment, and completes pregua‑and post‑trip inspections.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
  • Professionally and effectively interacts with management, co‑workers, contractors, and the public.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of county and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a variety of job‑related equipment.
  • Skill in the use of assigned equipment.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution preferred but not required.
Complexity/Scope of Work
  • The work consists of related maintenance duties. Inclement weather and heavy traffic contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to assist in the maintenance of the fairgrounds. Successful work performance contributes to well‑maintained county facilities and infrastructure.

  • This position is covered by Civil Service; therefore, is subject to the Civil Service Rules and Regulations in addition to all other Webb County policies.
