Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Associate Provost, the Dean of Workforce Education provides leadership and coordination within the Workforce Education Division, planning and coordinating all aspects of workforce education programs and departments to align with the college's mission. Responsibilities include overseeing curriculum and program development, as well as enhancing the educational effectiveness of all assigned instructional areas. Support workforce instructional programs and departments in accordance with Laredo College District policies and procedures, ensuring that students can meet their educational objectives.
Leads the exploration, development, implementation, and evaluation of Career and Technical Education programs, as well as collaborative efforts in non-credit program alignment and related initiatives. Builds industry partnerships to ensure program relevance and expand placement opportunities for students. - Provide leadership in developing and integrating instructional strategic plans, goals, and objectives consistent with the institutional mission.
- Provide leadership for decision-making, problem-solving, and personnel management within the respective Division.
- Provide leadership in promoting ethical standards among program directors, faculty, and staff.
- Provide leadership relating to student issues, including students' complaints, faculty advising, and registration.
Mediate conflicts and/or disagreements between faculty and students. - Provide leadership in developing and implementing assessment plans, including Institutional Effectiveness plans related to supervised areas, General Education plans, and Course-Based assessment plans, which focus on the teaching-learning processes.
- Provide leadership in developing facilities, staffing, and resource planning.
- Provide leadership in curriculum improvement through constant review, regular evaluation, revision, and attention to the relevance of all courses and programs.
- Collaborate with faculty on curriculum development and program reviews, including developing and assessing student learning outcomes.
- Monitor and analyze student performance data to assess progress toward performance-based outcomes and maintain accountability for meeting performance metrics and addressing areas needing improvement.
- Participate in shared leadership with the department chairpersons, directors, and faculty members.
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, orientation, supervising, and evaluating qualified full-time and adjunct faculty; evaluate credentials/records for all faculty members.
- Participate in developing informational materials for publication (brochures, pamphlets, catalog, webpages, etc.); coordinate programmatic promotions such as tours and school presentations; and provide data for the College catalog about the unit.
- Participate in the development of external grants for the units supervised.
- Participate in developing and implementing the academic calendar approved by the Board of Trustees.
- Supervise the preparation of schedules, teaching assignments, and class and room assignments; monitor enrollments and faculty loads and adjust according to registration trends and fiscal demands.
- Be responsible for budget recommendations and administration of the budgets in their area of responsibility.
- Organize divisional and departmental meetings. Attend leadership, dean, and other meetings as assigned.
- Promote, organize, coordinate, and provide the leadership to develop programs in conjunction with department chairpersons and directors.
- Consult and recommend faculty tenure, post-tenure, and evaluation processes. Review and handle concerns and issues according to policy and procedures.
- Oversee preparation of appropriate documentation required to obtain and maintain programmatic accreditation or certification/recognition.
- Develop and foster positive working relationships with placement sites, including developing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), an agreement, and/or a contract.
- Coordinate and participate in evaluating instructional staff, including faculty, department chairpersons, directors, and support staff.
- Prepare and submit reports required for performance measures, federal and state reporting, grants (current and future), articulation agreements, memorandum of understanding, licensing, and accreditation compliance.
