This position is responsible for assisting the teacher in the planning and provision of a high-quality early childhood experience for preschool children that meets all Head Start Program Performance Standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Must have good computer skills (working knowledge of Microsoft programs).
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Must have excellent communication skills (oral and written).
- Must have some classroom teaching experience, preferred.
- Must have a current CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license and be insurable; an MVR is required.
- Must maintain all Local, State and Federal qualifications for the position on an annual basis.
- Must have a High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- At a minimum, have a CDA credential or a state‑awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential; are enrolled in a program that will lead to an associate or baccalaureate degree in Child Development / Early Childhood, or are enrolled in a CDA credential program to be completed within two years of the time of hire.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and in the Spanish language.
- Have some classroom teaching experience.

- Supervise children at all times.
- Plan and implement children’s individual needs and strengths and utilize them for classroom instruction, based on the teacher’s input.
- Working with the teacher, create and maintain a classroom environment that supports learning.
- Maintain adequate teaching materials and facilitate children’s active exploration of material, activities, and environment, with the teacher’s guidance.
- Model best practices. Teaching strategies must be based on children’s individual needs and the Head Start Program Performance Standards, HSPPS and Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, HSELOF.
- Use positive approaches to guide children’s behavior towards active involvement in learning and the development of self‑discipline.
- ISD Teacher Assistants conduct 2 home visits and 2 parent conferences per family on an annual basis, in order to maintain open communication with the children’s parents and to report children’s progress, with the teacher’s input and guidance.

- Adjusting or moving objects up to 30‑40 pounds in all directions.

- Working in low temperatures.
- Working in high temperatures.
- Working in noisy environments.
- Working in small and/or enclosed spaces.
- Working in adverse environmental conditions is expected.
- Light work that includes carrying objects up to 20 pounds.
- Medium work that includes carrying objects up to 50 pounds
- Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Repeating motions that may include the use of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
