OverviewMobile Equipment Mechanics are responsible for repairing and maintaining all mobile equipment throughout all MCC operations while complying with all applicable mining regulations, and MCC policies at all times.
Basic Qualifications- A strong mechanical background. 5‑7 years as a mechanic and some formal training required.
- Reliable attendance and safety records.
- Ability to arc weld and use an oxy/acetylene cutting torch (preferred).
- Able to work without constant supervision.
- Able to give and take direction.
- Knowledge of safe operations of mobile equipment used throughout all MCC operations.
- Perform safety inspections of all working areas minimum once per shift as required by federal mining regulations. Additional inspections may be required as conditions warrant.
- Conduct workplace examinations to ensure a safe environment for yourself and fellow workers. Examinations must be complete; cursory examinations are not adequate.
- Address and take corrective action when possible. If unable to repair an identified deficiency, promptly notify the supervisor so MCC can initiate action.
- Perform corrective actions in compliance with all applicable federal/state regulations and company policies.
- Perform a pre‑shift inspection of every piece of mobile equipment before it is put into operation. Examinations must be complete; cursory inspections are not adequate.
- Complete a pre‑shift inspection sheet for every mobile equipment undergoing a pre‑shift examination.
- Ensure all mobile equipment, including auxiliary equipment used for a short period of time, is inspected by the equipment operator.
- Do not operate equipment with safety defects until repairs are completed. Tag out equipment with safety defects until repairs are done.
- Perform troubleshooting, maintenance and repairs on all mobile equipment.
- Examples of repairs include, but are not limited to:
- • Troubleshoot and repair both diesel and gasoline powered mobile equipment, including drive trains, brakes (air and hydraulic), A/A electrical, fuel and hydraulic systems.
- • Perform preventative maintenance on all mobile equipment.
- Maintain housekeeping duties to remove slip/trip/fall hazards. Clean up work area regularly; a job is not finished until the area is clean.
- Maintain an extensive set of tools assigned to this classification.
- Operate mobile equipment only after proper task training and adhering to safe operations guidelines in accordance with MSHA regulations.
- 8 to 12 hour shifts.
- Work in heat, cold, muddy, icy, or dusty conditions for extended periods of time.
- Subject to twisting, bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing.
- Lifting 65+ lbs regularly.
