This role is typically an 8‑week assignment. The RN leads patient care using the Nursing Process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses, and Scope & Standards of Practice. The RN delegates, directs, and assists licensed and ancillary team members; assumes accountability for quality patient outcomes; demonstrates sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity; and supports Ochsner’s philosophy of nursing.
Education- Registered Nurse Diploma – required
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – preferred
- 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse – required
- Current RN License in the state of practice – required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) – required (within 30 days of hire)
- Certification in a clinical specialty area – preferred
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications.
- Demonstrated good judgement.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including privacy, introduction, explaining services or procedures, requesting permissions, and communication style.
- Uses the Nursing Process in the delivery of patient care.
- Assesses learning needs and implements teaching strategies appropriate for diverse patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Communicates, delegates, and manages nursing team resources (human and fiscal) and serves as a leader on the Interdisciplinary Team.
- Utilizes data, information, and knowledge to evaluate and promote change for optimal outcomes.
- Embraces concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction, employee morale, and the profession of nursing.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Stays knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements and ensures compliance.
- Heavy work: occasional 50‑100 lb force, frequent 25‑50 lb force, or constant 10‑20 lb force to move objects.
- Exposes routine to blood, body fluids, tissue, and potential hazardous medications or waste.
- Occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous substances.
- Requires standing, walking, or pushing/pulling at a production rate pace.
