Position: RN In House Agency - Emergency Department - New Orleans Region

This role is typically an 8‑week assignment. The RN leads patient care using the Nursing Process within the framework of the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code for Nurses, and Scope & Standards of Practice. The RN delegates, directs, and assists licensed and ancillary team members; assumes accountability for quality patient outcomes; demonstrates sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity; and supports Ochsner’s philosophy of nursing.

Education
  • Registered Nurse Diploma – required
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – preferred
Experience
  • 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse – required
Certifications
  • Current RN License in the state of practice – required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – required
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) – required (within 30 days of hire)
  • Certification in a clinical specialty area – preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web‑based applications.
  • Demonstrated good judgement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
Job Duties
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including privacy, introduction, explaining services or procedures, requesting permissions, and communication style.
  • Uses the Nursing Process in the delivery of patient care.
  • Assesses learning needs and implements teaching strategies appropriate for diverse patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Communicates, delegates, and manages nursing team resources (human and fiscal) and serves as a leader on the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Utilizes data, information, and knowledge to evaluate and promote change for optimal outcomes.
  • Embraces concepts and behaviors that enhance customer satisfaction, employee morale, and the profession of nursing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Stays knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements and ensures compliance.
Physical and Environmental Demands
  • Heavy work: occasional 50‑100 lb force, frequent 25‑50 lb force, or constant 10‑20 lb force to move objects.
  • Exposes routine to blood, body fluids, tissue, and potential hazardous medications or waste.
  • Occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous substances.
  • Requires standing, walking, or pushing/pulling at a production rate pace.
