DEFINITION
Responsible for ensuring the safety of swimmers by preventing and responding to emergencies and maintaining the pool facility in a safe and sanitary condition.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERSEDReceives direct supervision from the Head Lifeguard.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSDuties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner.
- Prevent accidents and eliminate or minimize hazardous situations.
- Respond quickly to all emergencies.
- Administer any emergency first aid needed by the victim of an accident.
- Resolve customer complaints in a professional manner.
- Observe and enforce all facility rules and regulations. Educate the patrons and inform them of the purpose and need for rules and regulations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary facility.
- Attend all in-service training sessions as scheduled.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
For indefinite periods of time - exposure to the outdoors and extreme heat; exposure to fumes, odors, mechanical, electrical, explosive, radiation, and chemical hazards; walking; twisting body; standing; squatting; sitting; seeing; running; kneeling; grasping; climbing; cleaning; reading; decision making; reaching above shoulder level; pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 200 pounds; carrying up to 50 pounds; using both hands for simple and firm grasping;
clarity of hearing; fine finger manipulation; operation of calculator, pool vacuums, pool mechanical equipment, and a variety of hand tools.
- Must be 16 years or older.
- An understanding of facility rules, policies and procedures regarding American Red Cross Lifeguarding.
- Demonstrate decision making and problem solving skills.
- Must be safety conscious and should have a conviction for any safety concerns.
- Be available to work 5-6 days per week including Saturday and Sunday.
- Have reliable transportation.
- Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl and breast stroke.
- Tread water 2 minutes using legs only. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
- Retrieve a 10lb brick from a depth of at least 7 ft and swim 20 yards back to wall and exit pool within a time limit of 1 minute and 40 seconds.
Thorough knowledge and application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATESMust hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid Certification and AED certifications.
