Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Overview
Performs maintenance and repairs on equipment from minor service to major engine repair, welding and fabrication, analyzes breakdown, changes tires and blades, and other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions- Perform maintenance and repairs on equipment from minor service to major engine repair using all tools of the trade, precision instruments, welding equipment, shop machines, and power tools.
- Perform complete diagnosis of any mechanical, electrical or other breakdown or failure to motorized equipment. Change tires and other equipment as needed.
- Perform welding and fabrication of materials to make necessary repairs.
- Disassemble, overhaul, repair and re-assemble engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, brakes, electrical systems, fuel systems to motorized equipment or related equipment.
- Submit parts order requests through the Purchasing Department. Charge out parts and materials from the stock room for maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must adhere to departmental standards in regard to HIPAA and other privacy issues.
- During a public health emergency, the employee may be required to perform duties similar to, but not limited, to those in his/her job description.
Class 7:
High school diploma or equivalent, minimum four (4) years of experience in the truck mechanic trade, minimum three years ICRD Class 7 experience, plus attainment of at least four of the six current State of Michigan Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic Certifications.
Class 8:
All six current State of Michigan Heavy Duty Truck Mechanic Certifications, welding certifications from a recognized national organization, ability to read blueprints, advanced fabrication skills, ability to mentor less experienced Class 7’s.
Other Requirements:
Valid Commercial Driver License A with Group N endorsement, drug test clearance.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, traverse, climb, balance, twist, bend, stoop, crouch, squat, kneel, crawl, lift, carry, push, pull, reach, grasp, handle, pinch, type. Perform heavy work requiring more than 50 pounds of force. Medium visual acuity. Ability to communicate, operate PC, handle stress.
