Position Description

Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our truck fleet at Ryder in Battle Creek, Michigan. Contact Nick or text "BC" to .

Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly Pay: $33.50 per hour
  • Sign On Bonus:
    Ryder pays $2,000 at 30 days and $2,000 at 90 days
  • CDL A required
  • Certification Bonus of $100 for each new ASE certification obtained, up to $700
  • Quarterly Bonus:
    Ryder pays up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)
  • Schedule:

    Monday–Friday, weekends off
  • Hours:

    Second Shift 9:30 am – 6:00 pm
  • Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 K, and other benefits start at 30 days

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred)
  • Vocational or technical certification or post‑secondary degree (preferred)
  • Basic tools required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
    • Routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work)
    • Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems
  • Three (3) years or more relevant work experience (preferred)
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A (preferred)
  • All other certifications required by location (required)
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment
  • Knowledge of computer skills (PC, Windows, mouse, etc.)
Employment Criteria
  • Must obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire
  • Pass a Ryder drug test
  • Pass a DOT physical
  • Pass a Ryder road test
  • Pass a Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check, including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Responsibilities
  • Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard and preventive maintenance
  • Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer when applicable
  • Complete complex and detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision
  • Replace defective components as instructed
  • Work unsupervised on most tasks
  • Perform facility maintenance duties
  • Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint when assigned a task
  • Utilize key functions of shop management system and electronic documentation available
  • Work in accordance with all federal, provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
  • Act as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
  • Access and use internal and external maintenance documents
  • Support duties as required to support operations (e.g., service island support)
  • Complete SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT
    220)
  • Complete 2 OEM on‑line diagnostic scan tool software courses as required by location (within 365 days)
