Job Overview

Laborer – Lansing, MI. Michigan Paving and Materials, a CRH company, is hiring Laborers in multiple Michigan locations.
Job duties and responsibilities include operating various equipment, site cleanup, equipment maintenance, and adhering to safety and company policies. Travel, night and weekend work may be required.

• Operate various pieces of equipment accurately, efficiently and safely.
• Clean up around the plant and surrounding areas.
• Lubricate and perform general maintenance on equipment.
• Follow directions and participate in weekly safety meetings (Tool Box Talks).
• Maintain a professional and courteous attitude toward co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
• Be willing to travel and work away from home when required; may include nights and weekends.
• Report to the job site in proper work attire and begin work at the designated start time.
• Adhere to all safety practices, procedures, and company policies.
• Work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors as needed.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience helping operate or work around heavy equipment is preferred.

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Ability to pass pre-employment screening and testing.
• Adherence to safety requirements, procedures and PPE policies.

• Reading and interpreting safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; writing routine reports and correspondence; effective hearing and speaking for communication.
• Basic math skills and ability to work with measurements, rate, ratio and percent; ability to interpret graphs.
• Ability to solve practical problems and follow written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
• Vision: color, close, distance, peripheral, depth and focus.
• Ability to work at heights and balance on ladders, scaffolds and platforms.
• Physical activities include sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crawling, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in extreme temperatures.
• Work may involve uneven surfaces and outdoor conditions; use of hands to handle tools and controls.
• Flexible schedule based on project needs.

• Outdoor work on job sites with extreme weather and extended hours.
• Noise, dirt, grease and dust typical of construction; heavy equipment nearby.
• Potential exposure to form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel, asphalt and concrete.
• Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and uneven surfaces; exposure to varying weather, heat or cold.
• Occasional exposure to vibration; protective equipment may be required.
