Under moderate supervision, performs a variety of landscaping, construction, maintenance and repair tasks related to park development and maintenance of County parks and facilities and related work as required. Must be available evenings, weekends and holidays.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Interact with general public and facility users to provide visitor services, such as explaining regulations, answering visitor requests, needs and complaints, and providing information about the park and surrounding areas.
- Monitor the activities of park users, enforce Park operating rules and facility reservations.
- Operate park equipment including trucks, tractors and mowers and special equipment including chipper, chainsaw, aerial lift, 2-ton stake truck, tow portable stage and bleachers.
- Perform general grounds duties, string‑trimmer, lawn mowing and brush and debris removal.
- Perform routine maintenance and regular cleaning of buildings, facilities and grounds.
- Assist with operations of facilities, open and close buildings.
- Operate maintenance and custodial equipment and tools.
- Assist other personnel in maintenance duties and projects.
- Maintains records and reports as required.
- Administer first aid and notify emergency medical personnel when necessary.
- Institute emergency management procedures when appropriate.
- Performs minor repairs/improvements and maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of park grounds (lawns, shrubs, trees, and vegetation) and facility structures (rest rooms, offices, parking lots, benches, irrigation systems, and other park facilities).
- Performs basic construction tasks in maintaining and repairing erosion control, diversion, and drainage systems to protect park facilities.
- Maintains and performs minor repair on park facility structures.
- Operates and performs minor maintenance on trucks, tractors, mowers, or other light automotive mechanical equipment.
- Operates and performs minor repairs on hand‑held power and gardening tools.
- Assigns, trains, and reviews the work of public service workers performing park maintenance work.
- Assists Parks staff in maintaining records and reports and monitoring contractor maintenance services.
- May perform routine road repairs and/or construction of park trails and roads such as grading, compacting and preparing area for installation of drainage structures.
- May operate basic construction equipment such as two axel dump trucks and skid steers to remove dirt and rocks from trails, roads and other construction areas.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work is performed under the general direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, with direct supervision by the Park Operations Supervisor and the Park Coordinator.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:May guide the work of Park Rangers, seasonal employees, volunteers and community service workers and coordinate staff work duties in the absence of the Park Operations Supervisor. On occasion, may be required to supervisor seasonal employees.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS,EDUCATION:
- Graduation from an accredited high school (GED acceptable)
- Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in the following required; certification in a minimum of one area preferred:
- Building and grounds maintenance
- Electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and small engine repair
- Installation, operation and repair of the various types of equipment involved in the operation and maintenance of buildings and grounds.
- Writing, reading, mathematical principles; proficient computer skills‑Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook; exercise sound judgment and decision making in accordance with policies and procedures; ability to research and problem solve independently; knowledge of County operations and functions; ability to prioritize and time manage; handle stressful situations, provide effective and friendly customer service; support the County's mission and values; ability to think critically where necessary.
