Overview

The Development Director is a key member of the executive leadership team at Catholic Charities Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton (CCIEC), responsible for planning and coordination of all development-related efforts for CCIEC including donor cultivation of new and existing donors, planned giving, annual appeals, major gifts, philanthropic grants and third-party events. This position requires exceptional organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fundraising Strategy & Leadership:
    Develop and implement an annual fundraising plan aligned with CCIEC’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities. Oversee all aspects of fundraising, including individual giving, major donor cultivation, corporate and foundation support, grant development, special events, and planned giving. Monitor fundraising goals and performance metrics, regularly reporting progress to the CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Donor Cultivation & Stewardship:
    Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors, prospective donors, and key community leaders. Develop and oversee donor stewardship strategies to ensure long-term engagement and support. Manage and expand donor recognition programs and communications.
  • Grants Management:
    Oversee grant identification, writing, submission, and reporting processes in collaboration with the grant writer and program leaders. Ensure all grants are aligned with organizational priorities and that reporting requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Special Events & Campaigns:
    Lead the planning and execution of special events, fundraising campaigns, and donor engagement opportunities. Oversee event strategy and logistics, ensuring alignment with development goals and mission representation.
  • Team Leadership &

    Collaboration:

    Supervise development staff, including grant writers, event coordinators, and other fundraising personnel. Foster a collaborative, goal-oriented development team culture focused on relationship building and impact. Partner with program and communications teams to create compelling narratives for fundraising efforts.
  • Board & Leadership Engagement:
    Support the CEO and Board of Directors in fundraising activities and donor outreach efforts. Provide fundraising training and support to board members and senior leadership to strengthen development efforts. Participate in board development committees and present regular fundraising updates.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, public relations, or a related field;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive fundraising and development leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit or human services environment.
    • Proven success in major gift cultivation, capital campaigns, grant development, and donor relations.
    • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and public speaking skills.
    • Strong leadership abilities and experience managing development staff and volunteer committees.
    • Experience with donor management and CRM software (e.g., Blackbaud, Donor Perfect, Salesforce).
    • Knowledge of nonprofit financials and the ability to connect financial needs with philanthropic goals.
