DESCRIPTION
The CNC Machinist/Programmer operates as a skilled, intermediate-level technician within the manufacturing department. This role produces high-quality machined parts by programming, setting up, and operating CNC machines while maintaining safety, quality, and documentation standards. The machinist demonstrates growing independence, technical precision, and professionalism while supporting production goals and continuous improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan machining operations by studying blueprints, materials, specifications, and assembly drawings.
- Interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T) to ensure part accuracy and conformance.
- Program CNC mills and lathes by entering instructions, setting zero and reference points, and defining work offsets.
- Perform calculations involving geometry and trigonometry to support precise machining operations.
- Verify setups and part conformance by inspecting first-run and in-process work pieces.
- Maintain specifications by observing operations and making adjustments to meet quality requirements.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic equipment repairs.
- Document activities by completing production, inspection, and quality logs accurately.
- Support knowledge sharing across shifts by communicating updates, irregularities, and ongoing needs.
- Participate in training and continuous improvement opportunities to expand skills and efficiency.
- Contribute to organizational goals by identifying and implementing process improvements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work
- Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs
- Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
- Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
- Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment in order to remove grease, rust, stains, and foreign matter.
