Welder - 2nd Shift

Position Summary

Welds metal components together. Layout, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms and repair machine parts using knowledge of welding techniques (including brazing and a variety of arc and gas welding equipment), metallurgy, and engineering requirements.

• Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
• Perform related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
• Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and welds overlay metal parts.
• May locate cracks using die penetrant NDT methods and repair cracks in large fabrications.
• Positions and sets up components in preparation for weld repairs and/or fabrication.
• Layouts parts and assemblies according to specifications. Creates templates and other work aids to hold and align parts. Able to rig (cranes) and fixture parts to be welded.
• Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions and adjusts amperage, voltage, and speed during joining to assure required weld deposit.
• Inspects grooves, angles, gap allowances, and related aspects of assembly to ensure conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers, and related precision measuring instruments.
• Pre‑heat parts for effective welding.
• Performs quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards, using a variety of inspection tools and devices.
• Ability to work 2nd shift hours of 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm, Monday – Friday.
