Job Summary

The Maintenance Team Lead is responsible for overseeing maintenance operations across three buildings located on two campuses. This position supervises Maintenance Workers and ensures that all facilities, grounds, and fleet vehicles are safe, functional, and well‑maintained in support of the agency’s mission. The Maintenance Team Lead performs hands‑on maintenance work while providing leadership, coordination, and accountability for the maintenance team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and support Maintenance Workers.
  • Assign and prioritize daily, weekly, and seasonal maintenance tasks.
  • Provide training, coaching, and technical guidance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and ongoing performance feedback.
  • Ensure staff follow safety procedures and agency policies.
  • Participate in hiring and disciplinary processes as needed.
  • Oversee general building maintenance and repairs (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, minor HVAC).
  • Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs for facility systems.
  • Perform routine inspections of buildings and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and inspection requirements.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors when specialized repairs are required.
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot boiler systems.
  • Perform routine boiler inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Respond promptly to heating system issues.
  • Oversee lawn care, snow removal, landscaping, and seasonal grounds upkeep.
  • Ensure walkways, parking lots, and outdoor areas are safe and accessible.
  • Conduct routine fleet vehicle checks.
  • Coordinate vehicle servicing and repairs as needed.
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance logs.
  • Maintain maintenance schedules and work order systems.
  • Track supplies and order materials as needed.
  • Participate in emergency response and after‑hours calls as required.

A minimum of one year performance of maintenance functions in a large facility, including mechanical, HVAC, and other equipment, cosmetic, structural and preventative maintenance.

Possesses a skill set and willingness to provide basic repairs to agency mechanical, HVAC, major appliance, key and lock systems, and only utilizing vendor assistance when authorized by the Director of Facilities.

Qualifications Education

High school diploma, some college preferred

License

A valid Michigan Chauffeur Driver License, access to reliable transportation and maintain appropriate insurance. Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and database software.

Qualifications / Experience

At least one year experience with supervision, including setting performance standards, expectations and ongoing feedback regarding progress of goals. Experience in both inventory and durable goods receiving and disbursement.

Physical Demands
  • Emotionally able to work with information that may be traumatic in nature, as well as work with individuals or families in crisis or experiencing trauma.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Work involves talking, stooping, squatting, twisting, climbing, kneeling, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and use computer workstation, including keyboard and visual display terminal for extended periods of time.
  • Noise in the work environment is usually moderately quiet but can be very loud at times.
  • Work in an environment with various degrees of discomfort.
