Overview
Trainee Business Development Workers' Compensation at Emergent Holdings. This is an entry level position that is part of a formal training program. We are seeking to hire and begin training May or June 2026. Applications will be reviewed throughout 2025. The trainee will start in a foundational role within Business Development/Underwriting and the training period may last up to one year.
Upon completion, the trainee may be eligible for a targeted position within the career path.
This position description describes responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the role. Other essential functions may be required.
Responsibilities In a Learning Capacity- Learn and develop skills and competencies from the performance of assigned duties.
- Learn and develop skills and competencies in the use of systems, software, and programs.
- Research and analyze information within the assigned area (Claims, Loss Control, Underwriting).
- Work on special projects as assigned.
- Compute and provide reports, attend company meetings, and provide feedback to the appropriate supervisor(s).
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve problems and maintain company relations.
- Participate as necessary on special committees and task forces.
- Calculate, prepare and develop premium quotations using corporate underwriting guidelines within authority.
- Determine underwriting eligibility for prospective policyholders and develop pricing for new business, renewals, and endorsements.
- Analyze and review prospective accounts for insurability and accept or reject within authority.
- Support agency relationships.
- Develop new business and retention of existing business in a given territory or region.
- Explain and emphasize the benefits of workers’ compensation insurance products and services to customers (agents and policyholders).
- Analyze accounts to determine exposure and proper pricing.
- Review loss trends and develop action plans to address problem areas.
Associates in related field and certification (such as ARM, CPCU, AU) required; or a Bachelor’s degree in related field required. Continuous learning required per the company’s philosophy. Certification, or progress toward, highly preferred and encouraged.
ExperienceWith proper education, no experience is required. One year of relevant experience in an insurance environment or knowledge of workers’ compensation is desired. Bi-lingual skills in English and Spanish are desired. Underwriting/Business Development: agency management and marketing experience is preferred.

- Ability to relocate if required by business need.
- Ability to perform other assignments at locations outside the office.
Work is performed in the office and occasionally in the field with minimal hazards. Minimal travel is required with occasional overnight stays. Work is performed primarily in the field and may involve visiting customer locations with some hazards. Frequent travel, primarily by auto, with overnight stays. Ability to lift and carry computer equipment weighing up to 35 lbs. Valid driver’s license required with a record meeting corporate standards.
CompensationActual compensation decision relies on internal equity, candidate’s skills and experience, geographic location, market and other factors. A reasonable estimate for this role is between $48,200 and $67,900.
