The Department of Technology, Management and Budget (DTMB) supports the business operations of state agencies through services such as building management, information technology, and budget management.

We are seeking a highly skilled Solutions Architect to lead the design and implementation of enterprise-level IT architecture for the Management and Budget division.

This role establishes technical and infrastructure architecture, collaborates with Business Relationship Managers, and ensures enterprise solutions meet standards. It advocates emerging technologies such as AI, cloud infrastructure, and Dev Sec Ops , provides oversight for critical systems, and mentors staff.

Indirect reporting to the Chief Technology Officer through the Enterprise Architecture Division.

• Leading the development of enterprise architecture across systems and platforms.
• Designing and implementing scalable, secure, and cost‑effective infrastructure solutions.
• Aligning architecture with DTMB’s strategic goals.
• Evaluating and integrating emerging technologies including AI and cloud services.
• Conducting architecture reviews and ensuring compliance with NIST and DTMB standards.
• Providing technical leadership and mentorship to application architects and developers.
• Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure interoperability and security.

This position is located in Lansing, MI.

Possession of a bachelor’s degree with not less than 21 semester (32 term) credits in one or a combination of the following: computer science, data processing, computer information systems, data communications, networking, systems analysis, computer programming, information assurance, IT project management or mathematics.

Three years of professional experience equivalent to an Information Technology Infrastructure, Programmer/Analyst or IT Project Coordinator P11, or one year equivalent to an Information Technology Infrastructure, Programmer/Analyst or IT Project Coordinator 12. Three years of experience as a computer programming supervisor or Information Technology Supervisor may be substituted for the education and experience.

This position may be eligible for a sign‑on bonus up to $2,500. Up to $1,250 will be paid upon new hire and the remainder after satisfactory completion of the initial probationary period (12‑month period). This does not apply to current state employees.
