Position Overview:

Nuclear Medicine Technologist

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for executing comprehensive patient examination procedures at a technical level that ensures high-quality imaging in accordance with established protocols. The role typically requires general supervision.

Core Responsibilities
  • Diagnostic Imaging Expertise: Specializes in performing nuclear medicine imaging studies, utilizing advanced techniques to obtain diagnostic images.
  • Patient Interaction: Collects detailed patient histories, communicates standard operating procedures, and addresses patient concerns, fostering reassurance and confidence while ensuring individualized care.
  • Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Proficiently operates and maintains all designated nuclear imaging scanning equipment to guarantee optimal functionality and performance.
  • Radiopharmaceutical Handling: Accurately measures and prepares concentrations of radioactive isotopes for targeted anatomical areas, ensuring precise image capture as requested by referring physicians.
  • Medication Administration: Identifies, prepares, and administers radiopharmaceuticals and other substances in accordance with the technologist's scope of practice and directives from licensed independent practitioners.
  • Quality Assurance and Safety Compliance: Engages in quality assurance measures and adheres to radiation safety protocols to minimize exposure risks for patients, staff, and self, while complying with The Joint Commission and all relevant regulatory standards.
  • Documentation Management: Ensures meticulous maintenance of documentation, including logs, charts, and records in both paper-based and electronic systems.
  • Inventory Management: Oversees the inventory of consumables necessary for performing tests, ensuring adequate supplies for quality assurance processes.
  • Routine Equipment Maintenance: Conducts all routine maintenance and performance checks on imaging equipment according to established protocols, including daily, weekly, monthly, and periodic evaluations.
  • Cross-Department Support: Provides assistance to other radiology specialties as needed.
  • Additional Duties: Engages in other related tasks as assigned and required.
Qualifications
  • Must be registered in Nuclear Medicine with either the ARRT or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • A minimum of 2 years of Nuclear Medicine Technology experience is required.
Certifications
  • ARRT certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
