Patient Care Technician

Position

Patient Care Technician – Employed through Sparrow Hospital, located at Mary Free Bed at U of M‑Sparrow Inpatient.

6:30 am – 7:00 pm or 6:30 pm – 7:00 am. Full‑time or part‑time positions available.

This posting is for general Patient Care Technician opportunities at Sparrow Hospital. We have a variety of full‑time and part‑time positions.

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) assists nurses in providing basic care and performs specific procedures with patients. The PCT works under the supervision and direction of an RN and/or LPN.

• Provides basic care and tasks as directed by an RN.
• Performs specific patient procedures and treatments according to Hospital policies.
• Documents care given and patient response in patient record.
• Cleans and maintains equipment and environment.
• Demonstrates knowledge and use of appropriate equipment and supplies to provide quality patient care.
• Communicates significant information and changes in patient condition to the RN.
• Actively participates as a team member.
• Constructively addresses patient and team issues to ensure quality patient care and a collaborative work environment.

General Requirements: Basic life support (BLS) within 60 days of hire.

Work Experience: Previous experience as a PCT or CNA in absence of the required education.

Education: High school diploma, GED, or successful completion of 12 grades combined with continued enrollment in an early college program. Successful completion of an acute care nursing assistant program, certified nurse assistant program, documented completion of fundamentals of nursing as a current student in a nursing program, completion of a medical assistant program, or completion of an EMT or paramedic program.

Specialized Knowledge and

Skills:

Computer literate. Interpersonal skills for effective communication. Excellent attendance. Assumes responsibility for ongoing education and completion of mandatory requirements.
