Reports to: Manager - Environmental Health and Safety

Location: Lansing, MI

Overview

The Sr. Environmental Specialist will use their experience to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control hazards in the workplace and engage employees in the development of a strong EH&S culture. In this role, you will evaluate workplace compliance with regard to local, state and federal regulations. You will function as an expert resource to teams for consistent implementation of company EH&S standards and programs.

You will perform jobsite auditing and conduct incident investigations. You also will conduct inspections and ensure compliance with applicable EH&S regulations and standards.

Responsibilities
  • Support LG Energy Solution by managing the company’s permitting activities, including focusing on air (permits and compliance) but not limited to waste, storm water, wastewater permits and other reporting requirements
  • Assist with compiling all relevant information needed for completing facility permits
  • Collaborate with other groups and consultants as needed to ensure applications are completed/submitted accurately and on-time
  • Support others to ensure all permitting and reporting complies with company standards and applicable Federal/State/Local and environmental regulations
  • Provide relevant data for completing reports and tracking
  • Communicate with federal, state and local agencies as necessary
  • Provide management with updates on application and reporting status
  • Understand government regulations as needed to complete tasks
  • Provide technical expertise for other team members in regards to environmental regulations
  • Provide leadership with an accurate budget for permitting and reporting related fees and activities
  • Provide permitting and reporting assistance to other LG Energy Solution sites as needed
  • Provide overall support within the Environmental team, as assigned
  • Maintain cleanliness at work-site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:
    • Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
    • Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or related field required, MBA or MS preferred, or equivalent, relevant experience

Experience:

  • 6+ years of experience in environmental reporting and regulatory experience
Skills
  • Strong technical skills required to carry out complex permitting projects with minimal coaching
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and give direction to others
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with both internal and external customers and regulatory agencies
  • Possess a strong sense of urgency and the ability to prioritize workflow based on specific deadlines
  • MS Office Suite
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Possess a strong sense of urgency and the ability to multitask
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support entire production team
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support and work with HQ and global sites
