Job Summary

The City of Lansing Public Service Department is hiring a full‑time Engineer to support transportation projects, including traffic signals, signage, traffic control and non‑motorized facilities. The role involves project, construction and personnel management to deliver high‑quality public infrastructure.

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

• Engineer I (36):
  No specific experience required.
• Engineer II (38): 3 years of progressively responsible full‑time professional experience in the design, inspection and/or management of public infrastructure projects such as streets, sewers, bridges, trails, sidewalks and traffic signals. Master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.
• Engineer III (40): 5 years of progressively responsible full‑time professional experience in the same areas, including wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, and traffic signals. Master’s degree can substitute for one year of experience.

• Application of engineering principles to public works projects.
• Geotechnical engineering, drafting, surveying, materials testing.
• Estimating, project management, CAD and related software.
• Preparation of engineering plans, specifications, field reports and written reports.
• Supervision of others and maintenance of complex record systems.
• Analysis, interpretation, and explanation of technical plans, regulations and codes.

• Valid driver’s license.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or similar technical field.
• Ability to quickly learn new software.
