Job : 2385 # of Openings: 1 Fishbeck is seeking an accomplished Traffic Engineer to join our Transportation Division in Michigan. This position is ideal for a technically proficient, client-focused professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is prepared to lead complex transportation design projects. The successful candidate will oversee initiatives from concept through construction, mentor junior staff, and play a pivotal role in the continued growth of our Michigan transportation practice.
Primary Functions
- Lead the design and development of traffic engineering components, including maintenance of traffic (MOT) plans, signing and pavement marking layouts, and traffic signal systems, ensuring compliance with MDOT standards, the Michigan Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (OMUTCD), and applicable design guidelines.
- Conduct traffic impact studies, safety studies, signal optimization, and traffic forecasting.
- Prepare technical reports, proposals, and construction cost estimates.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and communication.
- Mentor and support junior staff; coordinate with other disciplines and regional offices (OH, MI, IN).
- Collaborate with clients, local agencies, and contractors to deliver high-quality solutions.
Occasionally exposed to light lifting, sitting, and walking. May perform duties in the field and will be required to access and maneuver around project sites and use a computer. Capable of traveling to and from projects is occasionally required. Ability to use equipment for communication and documentation purposes. Visual acuity to perform responsibilities.
Desired Education
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering
Skills:
- 10+ years of experience in traffic engineering, including MDOT-related projects.
- Michigan PE license required.
- Proficiency in Micro Station; experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of MDOT traffic standards and guidelines.
- Experience with Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Synchro;
Trans Modeler is a plus. - Familiarity with ITE Trip Generation Manual, complex MOT design, and traffic studies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with ITS and highway lighting design is a plus.
Applicants can be based in Farmington Hills, Grand Rapids, Canton or Lansing MI.
