Overview

At the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP), we are focused on improving opportunities and outcomes for Michiganders from preschool to postsecondary. We support families with quality child care and prek programs and help make skill certificates or college degrees more affordable so more people can succeed in Michigan. MiLEAP was created by Governor Whitmer in July 2023 and is the newest department in the State of Michigan.

This position serves as a Communications Specialist within MiLEAP Central Office, responsible for administering the department’s public website, intranet, and social media channels. The role leads web content strategy and digital operations, providing guidance and support to content editors and intranet liaisons across all program areas. The position also serves as MiLEAP’s digital accessibility and language access liaison, providing support with reviewing documents, helping divisions meet accessibility requirements, and ensuring digital materials align with state and federal standards.

Responsibilities
  • Administer and manage the department’s public website, intranet, and social media channels.
  • Lead web content strategy and digital operations, providing guidance to content editors and intranet liaisons across program areas.
  • Serve as MiLEAP’s digital accessibility and language access liaison, reviewing documents and assisting divisions in meeting accessibility requirements.
  • Ensure digital materials align with state and federal accessibility and quality standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, broadcasting, telecommunications, advertising, communication arts, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Four years of professional experience in a communications field.
