Rockford Area Schools is currently accepting applications for a 1.0 FTE Long Term Substitute Middle School 8th Grade Science Teacher. Courses include 5 sections of 8th grade science and 1 – 30 minute Boost/Advisory time. This long‑term substitute position will be responsible for all aspects of teaching in a middle school science classroom including, but not limited to, planning, preparation, lesson execution, and managing classroom routines/resources.
In Minnesota, 8th grade science focuses primarily on physical science, helping students understand matter, energy, forces, and interactions through hands‑on investigation and problem‑solving. Students analyze chemical reactions, energy transfer, and forces and motion while applying scientific practices such as modeling, data analysis, and evidence‑based reasoning. Throughout the year, students are also expected to connect science concepts to real‑world phenomena, engineering design, and environmental applications aligned with Minnesota’s adapted science standards.
Students will learn physical science concepts with a focus on understanding the relationships and interactions between matter and energy in the natural world. Topics investigated will include: types and forms of energy, chemical and physical properties of matter, forces and motion, electricity and magnetism, and waves and their interactions.
- Current, valid Minnesota teaching license required.
- Experience teaching science preferred.
