Department SummaryThis role supports the Gas Engineering Asset Planning department, specifically within the Permit Coordination team. The Permit Coordination team is responsible for reviewing all pre?planned gas work to determine required permits, submitting permit applications, tracking permits in detail, managing bond recovery, and performing additional functions that support the objectives of Geospatial & Gas Asset Management (G&GAM).
Role SummaryThe Gas Engineering Permit Coordination Analyst functions as a technical support resource for gas permitting within an assigned geographic area. This role is responsible for managing permitting activities from initiation through closeout, maintaining accurate tracking databases, coordinating with internal departments, and serving as a liaison with local municipalities and agencies. The position provides permitting support for gas projects throughout Lower Michigan.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor, manage, and utilize SAP tasks associated with permits
- Review pre?planned work and identify permitting requirements
- Complete check requests, bond requests, and invoicing for permit?related fees, including permit fee calculations
- Notify municipalities (city, state, township) of construction start dates
- Submit and manage:
- Start notices
- Completion notices
- Maintain and manage permitting databases, including:
- Permit tracking to ensure awareness of permits applied for and received
- Inspection escrow tracking to ensure refunds are secured
- Bond tracking to ensure outstanding bonds are recovered
- Coordinate with the Restoration department regarding cleanup schedules
- Coordinate with Scheduling to align construction timelines
- Track and coordinate all permits and bonds to quantify annual workload and spend
- Deliver and retrieve permit packets directly from permitting agencies as needed
- Support the full gas permitting operation across Lower Michigan
- Ability to work independently and as a self?starter in a fast?paced environment
- Strong attention to detail while managing shifting priorities
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Sound judgment, initiative, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure
- Strong analytical, diagnostic, and facilitation skills
- Database creation, modification, and management capabilities
- Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills

Required:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including:
- Excel
- Word
- Power Point
- Access
- Strong computer and database management skills
- Valid driver’s license with ability to deliver and pick up permit packets
Preferred / Highly Desirable:
- Experience using SAP
- Experience with MS SharePoint and MS Visio
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat
- Experience using Micro Station
- Ability to read and interpret construction prints
- Familiarity with utility or construction environments
- High School Diploma required
- Associate’s Degree or higher preferred
- Primarily remote role within Michigan
- Occasional in?person reporting and travel across Lower Michigan
- Dynamic workload requiring flexibility and responsiveness
- High level of coordination with internal departments and external agencies
