Overview

Position SummaryThis position assists in the daily support activities of the Parole Release Unit and helps staff complete assignments. Duties include routing and distributing file material, mailing notices, answering phone calls, replying to emails from the public, copying, filing, scanning, data entry, auditing, and supporting special projects as assigned by the PRU manager.
EducationEducational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
ExperienceGeneral Office Assistant 5:
No specific type or amount of experience is required.
General Office Assistant 6:
One year of administrative support experience.
General Office Assistant E7:
Two years of administrative support experience, including one year at the intermediate level.
- Basic customer service skills
- Basic computer skills
- Good phone skills
- Good written and verbal communication
- Must be able to work effectively in a variety of settings and work groups
- Must be flexible and be able to work effectively in a fast‑paced and ever‑changing work environment
The Department of Corrections may screen out applicants convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
New hires and returning employees after more than two years must complete Non‑Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) 40 or 80 hours, plus additional online training. All employees must meet high ethical standards. Employees must report any potential conflict of interest. Ethical Standards and Conduct (no form required).
Certain positions may require a criminal history background check.
