Overview
The Center for Materials Science & Engineering (CMSE) seeks a Senior Project Scientist / Engineer who, as an individual contributor, will apply engineering science, materials science, and related physical chemistry to support late-stage product development and global manufacturing. Projects involve technical investigation, risk assessment, physical characterization, and product-process analysis for human-health pharmaceutical and bio-sterile products. The Senior Project Scientist / Engineer represents CMSE on global manufacturing and product development teams, providing consulting, laboratory analyses of materials, and scaled-down process experimentation.
The CMSE lab includes state-of-the-art imaging, structural, spectroscopic, mechanical testing, and other techniques for complex fluids, powders, surfaces, functional materials, packaging, and medical devices. The role aims to understand relationships between material structure, function, and processing across a wide range of formulations and processes, while also developing niche expertise to strengthen CMSE.
- Represent CMSE on global manufacturing project teams and product development teams, collaborating with Technical Operations, Quality, regulatory, and analytical groups.
- Provide technical leadership and consulting, including analyses of materials (raw, intermediate, final product, packaging & device) and scaled-down process experimentation.
- Apply experimental research and problem-solving skills to support late-stage product development, risk assessment, and process optimization.
- Communicate findings and implications to cross-functional teams and contribute to product filings.
