SummaryThe Director of Curriculum provides leadership and vision for the ongoing planning, implementation, development, direction, review, and evaluation of the district’s curriculum and instructional services, as well as federal programs, assessment, and research and evaluation services. The Director ensures that district/school education objectives are aligned with state frameworks and with instructional practices that yield the highest standards of student achievement and instructional excellence.
The Director also serves in a leadership role in supporting the District’s culture of diversity and inclusion.
- Develop and implement curriculum programs and district structures to provide excellence and equity for all students.
- Develop and implement strategies to eliminate achievement disparities and remove barriers for students of all racial, linguistic, and economic groups.
- Develop a long‑range curriculum management process to align curriculum to Pennsylvania standards.
- Provide direct oversight of the district’s curriculum department, including supervision of content areas, the professional development program, the learning coach program, induction, and mentorship.
- Develop an annual budget for the curriculum department and oversee purchases and contracts.
- Oversee periodic curriculum reviews.
- Coordinate the evaluation and selection of instructional materials, licenses, and equipment relevant to the content areas.
- Participate in, plan, implement, and lead professional development opportunities for both instructional staff and administrators in curriculum and cultural proficiency.
- Support schools in using district‑wide and school‑based data to inform decisions.
- Provide oversight of the English Language Developer (ELD) program.
- Provide oversight of Federal Title funding.
- Serve in a leadership role in the district’s cultural proficiency efforts with the support of the Director of Elementary Education, Assistant Superintendent, and the rest of the Superintendent’s Cabinet.
- Collaborate with various Cabinet Members to develop and implement plans, including best practices, to eliminate achievement disparities and remove barriers for students with disabilities, those who identify as LGBTQIA2S+, and support an inclusive workplace.
- Serve as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendents and/or Superintendent.
- Master’s degree in Education and related content area;
Doctoral degree preferred. - PA Certification in Curriculum and Instruction PK‑12, or Principal’s Certificate PK‑12.
- Seven years of successful professional experience in education, three of which have been in an administrative or supervisory capacity and have involved implementing instructional strategies.
- Minimum of three years of successful administrative leadership (supervisory capacity), involving the implementation of instructional strategies.
- Demonstrated success as an educational leader.
- Curriculum/instruction/assessment and PA standards.
- Curriculum development and implementation, and instructional strategies related to curriculum, content, and problem‑solving.
- Principles, practices, and methods of education in Literacy or Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, or Dual Language/English Language Learners.
- A variety of pedagogical modalities.
- Research related to the curriculum and instruction.
- Educational administration.
- Supervisory methods and techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and nurture relationships with stakeholders.
